Intro to Ceramics
This course is an introduction to ceramics at the high school level and is designed for students at all abilities. Students apply the elements and principles of design to create functional and sculptural art. Through observation, abstraction, invention and expression, students gain skills in hand building techniques such as slab, drape and coil. Students explore design techniques, are introduced to the potter's wheel, and learn to finish clay pieces using low-fire glazing techniques. Assessment is based on pre-planning, project specific rubrics, teacher observation of work habits and technical/creative growth.
